Figured I'd use this blog to catalogue my record collection. I'll be providing some technical information on the albums as well as my thoughts. My collection is non-genre specific. I keep the bulk of them alphabetized by Artist. However, I also maintain a section I refer to as the esoteric field, which contains unusual records, and artists I wouldn't remember the name of if they weren't in this category. The Classical and Compilation albums are also in separate sections.
I'm sure you can think up a favorite Monty Python sketch. Or remember the sketch that made you hate them. Comedy is a fickle thing. These three albums, from the peak of their powers, contain the fast paced absurdity and satire that made the group famous.
"Whenever someone asks, 'Mind if I smoke?', I say, 'No, mind if I fart?'" This is a Steve Martin comedy album. Enough said. Go laugh! Also, it's really funny to hide an atom bomb in your nose, and then pretend to sneeze.

The first time I recall hearing Spike Jones' name as in the song, Up On Cripple Creek by the Band... "now me and my mate was back at the shack, we had Spike Jones on the box. She said, I can't take the way he sings, but I love to hear him talk." I truly can't think of anyone like Spike Jones, ok, maybe Weird Al comes close, but they're also miles apart. It's mind blowing to think that all of Jones musicians are having to come up with all these complex sound effects live in the moment, making his one of the tightest bands ever. And, come on, anybody that conducts their band with a starter pistol has to be cool.
No, it's not an album featuring the spoken word comedy stylings of Bill Cosby. Although, there is humor in some of these tracks. No, this album features Bill Cosby singing/speaking some hits of the time, as well as some rewritten send offs of some hits. Hooray For The Salvation Army Band is a parody of Purple Haze. All the while Bill is being backed up by the incredible Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band. Not gonna lie, this is a weird album. I mean, at one point he turns the song Reach Out (I'll Be There) into a song about a girl in the jungle getting chased by a snake in a tree, and all the excuses as to why he can't come help her. I really think the album cover says it all.
